A Blanket of Butterflies by Richard Van Camp, Scott B. Henderson

adventurous mysterious
Sonny, a young Tłı̨chǫ Dene boy, and his grandmother help a Japanese man, Shinobu, reclaim his grandfather’s lost samurai sword and armour. I really enjoyed the mash of culture in this story. I only wish it were longer, to go more in depth about their respective cultures. The author’s note did provide a lot of context but I would’ve loved to see more of that play out in the story. The journey gives us unlikely heroes and even a visiter from the spirit world, so I thought that was a lot of fun. I’m excited to see where the story goes next.
