Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

2.0

Watched the movie recently (the newish one), and finally decided to give this book a chance. Decided even that this book would start off my autumnal reading list, because everyone and their mother recommended it to me as a perfect September-October read.

Sad to say, I didn't vibe with the movie and I didn't vibe with the book. As I'm someone that just has to get at least some kind of connection to at least one of the characters, this book... Nothing. Nada. Zip. Mostly everyone just grated on my nerves and I had zero sympathy for anyone here. The twist I already knew because I watched the movie and it didn't deliver any kind of a different impact in the book.

The only redeeming thing is the writing. The writing is occasionally gorgeous and vivid, the descriptions... You know those lines that you read and fall a little bit in love with them and sigh? Yeah.
