Miss Marple's Final Cases by Agatha Christie

4.0

Review taken from The Pewter Wolf Reads as part of Audiobook April 2023

Earlier this year, I audiobooked [b:The Thirteen Problems|63347797|The Thirteen Problems (Miss Marple, #2)|Agatha Christie|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1668787112l/63347797._SY75_.jpg|739911], the first collection of Miss Marple short stories, and I got why most Agatha Christie fans say Miss Marple works really well in short stories while Poirot works best in novel.

So, when I saw this appeared on my library's audiobook app, I had to listen to it. Am awaiting more Agatha Christie audiobook on the app, but I can wait.

In this collection, we have nine short stories. Each really interesting and I enjoyed each one of them (though Miss Marple Tells A Tale is probably my fave out of the collection. It makes me really want to try a Miss Marple novel (I've tried two - [b:The Murder at the Vicarage|282872|The Murder at the Vicarage (Miss Marple, #1)|Agatha Christie|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1466852132l/282872._SY75_.jpg|2589654] and [b:At Bertram's Hotel|13394102|At Bertram's Hotel|Agatha Christie|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1568035245l/13394102._SY75_.jpg|1444048] - and had a strong dislike to them. The collection of short stories written by modern authors - [b:Marple: Twelve New Stories|58900183|Marple Twelve New Stories|Naomi Alderman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1651661807l/58900183._SY75_.jpg|92798764] - was hit and miss. Even now, I think of two or three shorts and go "Why haven't Agatha Christie Ltd offered these authors a chance to write a full-length novel or another short story collection).

However, I do have one query. This collection focuses on Miss Marple. so, why do we have two random, supernatural stories - The Dressmaker's Doll and In a Glass Darkly - in this collection when they would be best suited in [b:The Last Seance: Tales of the Supernatural|52367998|The Last Seance Tales of the Supernatural|Agatha Christie|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1566685273l/52367998._SX50_SY75_.jpg|68646183] (I just checked. Both stories are in this collection)?

But yes, I liked this hugely so I will be trying Miss Marple novel in the future. One day...
