Ivar, Timewalker Volume 1: Making History by Fred Van Lente

3.0

Essentially, a story about the rules of time travel in the Valiant Universe. Van Lente's humor isn't always my flavor of ha-has, but he's very select with it in this volume, and after a series of serious, well-paced pages of plot development, he threw in a joke that made me snort.

Like the best of the Valiant books, this is an amusing adventure story with fun characters. The new character provides us with an interesting lense for the madness of Ivar's time travel shenanigans, and the establishment of the rules of time travel (particularly the "It's not that you shouldn't change anything, it's that you actually can't") made this a good, if not great story. It's also a pretty decent entry point to the Valiant Universe.
