My Darkest Prayer by S.A. Cosby

4.0

Violent Southern Noir Crime Thriller and it's fantastic.
I really like this author's storytelling abilities. Nathan Waymaker is a former marine and sheriff's deputy. He has some skeletons in his closet and is a man people turn to for help. Life in a small southern town gets complicated really fast when a preacher is murdered and the sheriff's department doesn't seem too concerned with investigating the circumstances. Mayhem, murder, shoddy police work, corruption all play leading roles in this novel.
This book is definitely not for everyone, the violence is graphic and it was even more so because I had the audio version. The language is beyond R-rated LOL.
The narrator is Adam Lazarre-White and he is fabulous.
Some notable quotes:
"People want champagne funerals but got beer budgets"
"I don't give a fuck how you put him away, just bury him deep so he's that much closer to hell"
"You ain't got to do nothing but stay Black and die"
and the best one which explains the title "Either none of our prayers are heard, or all of them are, even the darkest ones".
All in all I loved the book, the only reason this isn't a 5/5 is the author just loves his similes...I do not.
