Found: A Daughter's Journey Home by Tatum O'Neal, Hilary Liftin

4.0

I actually enjoyed this book purely as entertainment because the O’Neals fascinate me. But how did Tatum think airing her family’s dirty laundry on OWN would aid in an honest reconciliation with Ryan? But it made for good tv and gave a boost to her career. Right? Or did it? All those motivations aside and the rehashing from Paper Life, there was a daughter’s quest to try to find peace, and I didn’t see it as her putting all the blame on her parents for her addiction, but you can’t tell me environment and genetics didn’t partly contribute to her problems. In the end, she did realize you could only forgive and accept, that people view the past differently and are never going to agree on everything. She vowed to move on and be grateful for the present and I thought that was a mature conclusion to her journey.
Interesting how her kids all seem to be unemployed or struggling to support themselves, while trying to make it as artists but not finding any tangible success - must be hard to live in the shadow of famous parents and not have any of their innate talents.
