Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

4.0

The cover made me expect something a little more "Where the Red Fern Grows," which I was glad this was not. It's almost a little more Harriet the Spy, but sweeter, and more younger-readers-accessible. The 7yo agrees with me that it's got the saddest overall mood of the DiCamillos we've read, but it's got it's laughs too, and I think he liked it better than Despereaux.
