Child of Fire by Harry Connolly

This is a fantastic book. You should auto-get this for two reasons. 1) It's $0.99 in ebook format. 2) It's great.

Caveat: The author's contract was shut down after the third book.

Don't let that stop you, this is a well written introduction to a very interesting magic system that involves tattoos & rituals. I have a hard time reviewing books as I hate spoilers, and the first third of a book is a wild ride as you have no clue what is going on and you have to figure it out as your sad and I enjoyed that the most. I hate the 'on rails' story lines that go through the origin story. This tosses you in, and starts you out mid stream and then slowly adds things so you understand what is going on.

The basic premise is a first person narrative from the point of view of the main character. he did something wrong in his past that got him assigned to a mysterious organization. He's despised by the woman he's assigned too, and he has to do whatever she says. The start of the book they are chasing a car down, and as they get there the parents and child get out of the car only for the child to burst into flames, and then moments later the parents forget he existed.

It gets great from there. I really enjoyed reading this and will be getting the next two in the series.
