The Book of Kings by Cynthia Voigt

3.0

Read aloud with Martin (except for the final 50 pages). This was a major disappointment for me. We loved the first book in this series--clever, mysterious, exciting, and fun. The second wasn't as good, but we still really enjoyed reading it together. This book had a solid first 70 pages. Then it dragged for the next 200, so much so that we finished the book reading separately instead of aloud because it was such slog going. It's a shame that the author didn't wait longer to conclude the series until she had a better plot worked out. I found the ended unsatisfying.
