Becoming Free Indeed: My Story of Disentangling Faith from Fear by Jinger Duggar Vuolo, Jinger Vuolo

4.0

I didn't grow up quite as fundamental as Jinger, but almost. I did grow up under the headship and authority of pastors who added legalistic rules to faith, and it caused me a lot of heartache throughout my life. The purity culture aspect alone was incredibly damaging and I still suffer effects from that.

Jinger Vuolo has a lot of courage to write this, and I am really surprised in a pleasant way by how she manages to express her love for her family and her commitment to them while still calling out problematic issues with the way that she was raised under Gothard's principles.

I also "disentangled" from inaccurate beliefs, but retained my faith in Jesus. My faith now looks very different from the faith of my youth, but Jinger and I agree that Jesus is central to everything, Even if we disagree on some other things.

This was a solid read and I'm glad I picked it up.
