Ditch the City and Go Country: How to Master the Art of Rural Life from a Former City Dweller by Alissa Hessler

3.0

Ditch the City and Go Country is a great resource if you are considering transplanting your self from urban to rural. She is comprehensive with her advice, drawing from her own experiences, as well as from others, which she documents on her blog Urban Exodus (and, to a lesser extent, in this book) from choosing a house / location to gardening, raising animals, and getting along with your new neighbors. Some of the information she shares is repetitive, like how to get along with your new neighbors, but this advice bears repeating. When you live in a small town, everyone will know you, or know of you, and if you come across as the know-it-all city slicker, your transition will be that much harder. Alissa is very pragmatic. I will consult this book again and again, working out a plan to relocate.
