The Healing Party by Micheline Lee

5.0

This book packs a punch. Micheline Lee sets the narrative within a religious charismatic family when the prodigal daughter returns to the fold after her mother is diagnosed with cancer. Lee creates such a claustrophobic environment within the family and so intimately draws the reader into this world that I felt slightly shell-shocked when I emerged after reading this book. There is a saying that you read the book you need and I really felt the family dynamics and the pull and push of obligation, tradition and manipulation. Loved this book and will read anything Micheline Lee writes.
