Broken Knight by L.J. Shen

5.0

This was book #44 for Romanceopoly 2020.

Pack: Sun
Square: Beau Boulevard
Challenge: Read a young adult by a new to you author

Ok, this book is my first one for author, L.J. Shen and I was blown away. I truly enjoyed her writing style even though there were moments (lots of them) when I was yelling at both the hero and heroine.

This book is one of the few new adult romances for me so I'm still getting used to the high level angst in the story. There were moments that I had to remind myself how young and dumb (as we all are at that age) I was at the age of these characters. Both the hero and heroine had to deal with some pretty heavy life circumstances despite their affluent upbringing.

Trigger warning: Both characters deal with losing a parent in different ways - one is abandoned by parent and the other one loses the parent because of death. If you are like me, this can be extremely emotional to read. I sobbed through the chapters when the one character loses his parent. (Yes, I'm being vague even though this review is hidden behind the spoiler filter).
