Watership Down by Richard Adams
3.0

My brother and sister adored the tape of this book when we were growing up I avoided it I think because I knew it was dark in places. It's a clever book and I really enjoyed the use of language and learning about rabbit habits. Overall I found it too long and a bit violent in parts. What struck me most was how male dominated it was. All of the heroes are male, in fact most of the characters including the other animals. The does were often grouped together and literally referred to as necessary only for the benefit of having kittens. Wouldnt pass the Bechdel test! Glad ive read it but certainly not an all time favourite.
