3 stars - I liked it

Monroe has inherited his aunt's historic house in the small town of Safe Harbor and he needs to fix it up fast so he can sell and move on to his big-city dreams. Luckily, his best friend has a great solution: have his twenty-three year old son as a roommate for the summer and he can help with remodeling the house. Unfortunately, Knox is hot as sin and the guy he almost hooked up with recently. 

Monroe and Knox’s relationship was sweet, emotional, and a bit tense at times due to the fact that this is supposed to be a fling and they are trying to hide it from his father. Monroe was a steady but sweet guy who really tried to keep Knox at a distance for fear of ruining his lifelong friendship but that doesn’t last long with them being under one roof. I understood Monroe’s fear of ruining a relationship but also it is his and Knox’s life, not his best friend/ Knox’s father and you shouldn’t let anyone, especially family, stand between this level of happiness. I was glad to see that Knox and Monroe stood up to his father and they didn’t take any shit from him. 

Knox was a sweet and enthusiastic guy. I loved his drive to rebuild Monroe’s old house and make it into an actual home, not just into a showroom. Knox is struggling to decide what to do with his future: either go to an Ivy league graduate school or stay in the town he loves and take over the small business of two men who are his mentors. I really liked that while he is struggling with this Monroe never tries to tell him what he should do, just helps him talk it out when he needs to. It was incredibly supportive of him, and just what Knox needed to decide his future. 

“This town—what it means to you. That’s you for me. You’re the place I want to return to, over and over. My north star. The thing that makes everything else all right.”

Knox and Monroe’s relationship was intense, sweet, and brimming with a lot of barriers that took a while to break down. We do get a bit of a third act break up when these two admit their feelings but still don’t have set future plans and while I don’t usually love third act breakups, this one felt right since they have gone into this relationship with a set ending to their relationship but now everything has changed. I did really enjoy seeing these two deal with their issues and figure out what they actually want from the future though. 

Overall, this was a good start to this new series and another great romance from Albert. I think my only real complaint is that I was expecting a conclusion to Monroe’s murder investigation but since it was kind of still in progress at the end I hope we get more information on what happened in the next book.
