The Red Pony
by John Steinbeck
A good introduction to John Steinbeck in short little book. Strong themes of family, childhood wonder, and loss. The short story at the end continued some of these themes while asking the question, is happiness without success a worthy version of happiness? This book was written in the 1930s and some sentiments (specifically related to native american’s) are reflected in that, unfortunately. Overall, a fun read and I am excited to read more Steinbeck.
