passage from one of the short stories that really moved me:

Malja folded the letter she would give Jimin in person, at the place no mail carrier could access, the place no letter could reach, and hugged it to her heart.

from author's note:

After making my literary debut, I wrote with the feelings of someone dating a longtime crush. The completion of a sentence, a paragraph, a story was in itself a joy. The long, slow hours of sitting at my desk, only to write a few lines, were precisely what made me come alive. Some wounds could only be healed when I was absorbed in writing.

I was too harsh on myself during my teens and twenties. I would like to apologize to the old me for hating and unfairly treating myself just because I was who I was. I’d like to cook a delicious meal for that girl, massage her shoulders, and tell her everything will be alright. I’d like to take her to a warm, bright place and listen to her story. And thank her for gathering her courage, even though she is such a coward, and accompanying me to this point.
