Most of the sex scenes were still incredibly hot, which is a pretty key feature for erotica. However, despite the authorial warning that this one was substantially darker than other books he's written, I was still surprised by just how much darker. And perhaps I read it when I wasn't particularly in the mindset for dark, which would have impacted my enjoyment.
If you're looking for vampires, the viciousness that hides in plain sight at courts, and (torture) porn, pick this one up. If you're in the mood for lighter fare, however, I'd suggest Pride and Prostitutes.
