This was a battle between one and two stars, yet in the end I wasn’t feeling kind enough to give it the two.

So, what made it so bad for me?

We’ll start with the writing style. I know it is a young adult book, but even then I feel as though it was too simplistic. Due to that I was bugged throughout. In a sense, it was young adult in topic but not in writing – the two did not match up at all.

Then there is the character. At first it was general impassivity but as the story went on it turned into dislike. I wanted to shake her for her stupidity. But, as well all know, in cases like this stupidity is necessary for the story to progress. Honestly, though, anyone who has watched any television would have been able to realise what was going on. I just wanted to shake her so damn hard. Not to mention the way she kept putting herself down… well, I know it happens but it got boring pretty quickly. If I wanted to listen to an inner monologue of self-hate, I would have sat listening to my own thoughts rather than reading a book.

In all honesty, this book makes me glad I did not pick up a young adult crime book when I was younger. Had I done so I fear I would have never have picked up any of the adult crime books I love so much. In fact, this one has actually put my sister off looking at my crime books as she believes this reflects what she will be given, which it really doesn’t.

In short, I was not a fan.
