Unwinding Anxiety
by Judson Brewer
informative
slow-paced
This book gave me a new framework for understanding anxiety—not as something to “solve” but as a habit loop the brain has learned over time. Judson Brewer blends neuroscience, mindfulness, and practical strategies in a way that’s approachable without feeling overly simplified. I especially appreciated the idea that even worrying can feel rewarding to the brain because it gives us a false sense of control. The RAIN technique (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Note) was a helpful tool, as was the “hmm” tonal technique to transition from worry to curiosity as a bigger, better, offer.
That said, the science-y structure felt a little slow in parts, and some of the examples were repetitive. But overall, I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a science-backed, compassionate approach to working with—not against—anxiety.
