Slices of Night by Alex Kava, J.T. Ellison, Erica Spindler

4.0

The stories revolve around a serial killer who charts a path across the country. Each author's story is presented separately as their respective detectives investigate their cases.

I've wanted to read something by Erica Spindler for quite awhile and now that I have, I'm anxious to start her Stacy Killian series. Her writing is sparse, to the point and quick paced...just how I like police procedurals and mysteries. I also liked Killian and the secondary plot in this segment.

I've read the first book in the Taylor Jackson series and this story has given me the incentive to continue the series. This segment was well crafted and moved the case along very well.

Did we really have to resurrect Nick Morelli? Really? His role was predictable, as inept as ever. Maggie O'Dell doesn't do any profiling here either and, unfortunately, this was the weaker of the three stories but it wasn't bad. I liked the twist at the end.

I'm not normally a fan of multiple authors writing one story arc but this was exceptionally well done, all staying true to their characters and writing styles. I almost skipped this (in the Maggie O'Dell series) and am glad I didn't.
