Dream Story by Arthur Schnitzler

5.0

oh how i took my time with this sweet and short read. literally dosified it because i never wanted it to end.

starting to doubt if there's anything i love more than freud all over a piece of work. the examination of dreams, sexuality, desire, ego and guilt by the hand of arthur AND set in vienna was nothing more than perfection.

how much are we willing to admit (or lie) to ourselves (and others) just to keep up the good guy/girl/they/it appearance? how much of it is earnest? why wouldn't it be? can it ever be? probably not.

" In a way it does have to do with a guilty conscience, or rather with questions of conscience in general."

crazy how much a dream story can reveal to us.
crazy how little we are inclined to dig deeper as to what that tells about us.
crazy how easy it is to blame it on someone else, because why would it be our fault?

"As if there were a sword between us, he thought again. We are lying here side by side like mortal enemies."
