Rainbow Valley by L.M. Montgomery

3.0

Anne Shirley is one of my favorite characters of all time, and Anne of Green Gables is a book that I can read over and over again and love it every time. But the more I read of the series, the less I enjoy it. In the later books, Anne loses most of her personality and instead becomes this bland ideal wife and mother. This was my least favorite of the Anne books - because Anne doesn't really appear in this book. Instead, Rainbow Valley follows the Meredith siblings, who are friends with the Blythe children. I think I would have enjoyed this a lot more had it been a stand-alone. Rainbow Valley is a really sweet story and had a lot of the elements that I enjoyed in Anne of Green Gables. But because this was technically one of the Anne books, I was hoping to see a lot more of Anne than we got.
