Conan by Lin Carter, Robert E. Howard, L. Sprague de Camp

3.75

lore-rich rollicking adventure stories that scratch a lot of archetypal itches. i loooooove complex world-building (empires rising and falling, continents slipping into the sea, internecine conflicts, dark magics, alien gods) and Conan does all of these things really well. the enormous weakness is the sexism; these stories have no use for women unless they are helpless, writhing, and naked. there's nothing wrong with naked writhing women as long as those aren't the only defining traits of all women in the world. I would read about a hundred more of these.
