A Secret Shared with Death: Gods from the Oblivion by Ariella Isabella

4.0

Before starting this review, I wanted to thank Ariella for the privilege to not only be on her street team but read this story as it evolved to the product it is right now. This book was fantastic!! This story follows the perspective of our female main character, Isolde of Arramore, she is eighteen years old and from a small village, Aeson, that is on the edge of the human kingdom. One day her village is set on fire by the elves in search of a weapon. Isolde narrowly escapes, upon her escape she is confronted with the God of Death for the third time in her short life. Death has constantly been stalking the dark corners of Isolde's life because there is something different about her... Isolde cannot die. The whole of the human kingdom is looking for a strange girl with silver hair and eyes the color of the sky. With her safety threatened, Death offers to find her a teacher for her powers and safety. After her agreement to finding a teacher for her magic, Isolde goes on a journey she never expected, filled with Gods, Fae Kings, Nymphs, and a secret twist of who Isolde really is.

This book has ALL the tropes:
-love triangle
-shadow daddy
-enemies to lovers to enemies
-powerful FMC
-SMUT
-morally grey characters
-all fantasy creatures

I was gripped, I did struggle with the first person narrative as I prefer third person or omniscient narrator. The only reason this was not five stars for me is that being first person the description of the main character, Isolde, was lacking. It was not until a bit further into the book that it was describe what she looked like. The romance and the pull and tug of it was written super well, I felt that it went along with Isolde's character. Isolde was not offered a lot of love or affection as a child so having two males giving her love and affection it was hard for her not to irrationally fall for it even if she knew it was the wrong thing in the moment. I felt that Isolde's character was consistent the whole time and she grew as a person, but she was still an 18-year-old girl with little to no life experience. Ariella also included lots of diversity within this book which I just loved seeing the other romantic dynamics for other characters. I highly recommend this book and I am so excited for Ariella's first full length published novel.
