Eragon is a fun story set in a high-fantasy setting. If you like The Lord of the Rings, chances are you'd find this entertaining. People say it can be derivative--fine--but there was thought and care put into building a unique magic system and a super scary and interesting villain. Even if everything isn't perfect, the reader is really motivated to see what happens to the characters. The world is set up perfectly such that Eragon's potential is boundless, and that is really cool.

My complaints with the book come from the lack of character building with Eragon. He never really faces any choices in the book that affirm who he is. He isn't really tempted much to stray from the path other characters lay out for him. He is distraught by sad things, but just pulls himself up and carries on to the best of his abilities. When things go wrong, it's hardly from choices Eragon makes; it's always because someone else did something, or he ran out of strength. The plot happen to the characters rather than the characters driving the plot (for the most part).

All in all, still love this series, first one is 4.25 ⭐️
