Batgirl, Volume 3: Mindfields by Brenden Fletcher, Cameron Stewart

1.0

I couldn't finish it. I'm tired. This series is awful, and here I was rooting for it. The art isn't even as enjoyable as it used to be. Cameron Stewart seemed really funny in person and I wondered if it might go downhill when I heard him making the excuse, "The format is too short to tell a compelling story". Odd, because we have plenty of comics in existence with smaller formats that have far more going on than Batgirl of Burnside. A lot of Bab's life is filler, and her personal life is bland af. Even if she weren't always acting like a ditz, it's a crappy, shallow life to read about. We don't need or want to constantly have it shoved in our faces to depress us further. The villains are so nonthreatening, and her dilemmas are so silly, it seems like it's for children. But the content is usually adult in nature, so the effect is just unpleasant and makes you wonder if Cameron Stewart is one of those guys who likes to infantilize women. It definitely had the same vibes as the Josie and the Pussycats comic reboot, so if you're into that kind of stilted, fever-dream pandering, you'll love this.
