Berry's art is as beautiful as always, and the tale unfolds itself and its creepiness slowly, the way I prefer. The ambiguity here offers my favorite kind of scary: is the danger supernatural? human? our own guilty minds playing tricks on us? I understand that the uncertainty doesn't work for everyone, but I relished the way the gnawing dread followed me into real life once I put the book down. Definitely recommended for folks who like books that keep them guessing til the very end--and maybe beyond. (Also, as other reviewers have noted: pay attention to EVERY page that has art on it. This is a book made with a lot of deliberation. The jacket blurb says "The devil is in the details"; that line serves as a good guideline for how to read this book.)
