The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

4.0

I found a slice of my childhood that was long lost and was assumed never to be found again.

Like the infinite treasure of the dwarves that Smaug stole, only to be found and restored with the help of Bilbo Baggins.

This book has been a journey. Well, the second one in fact. I had read it long ago and had fallen in love with Tolkien's writing style. I longed to become a Hobbit - Bilbo Baggins of Bag-End of the Shire. To go on an adventure through Rivendell, crossing the Misty Mountains, through the Old Forest Road, and into the Lonely Mountain overlooking the Long Lake Esgaroth.

The Hobbit is a turning point in my reading journey. It is my first tryst with fantasy fiction - a genre I was never interested in. Now I long to live in the Tolkienverse where good will ultimately win over evil, albeit amidst some struggle.

Forever a Tolkein fan.
