The Other Side of Paradise by Staceyann Chin

5.0

The Other Side of Paradise is an excellent memoir about the life of Stacyann Chin who grew up in Jamaica and was moved from multiple houses as a child. It’s very sad to read about someone go through as much as Chin did. Chin articulates the emotions from her childhood very well. She’ll love someone, then hate them. Sometimes her anger leads to violent thoughts. Sometimes she convinces herself she doesn’t want anything from others. Chin comes across as an honest writer and a dimensional character.  I am grateful for her beautiful writing. I found the epilogue especially moving as she reflected on her relationships covered in the book. I’d love to read some of her other work in the future.
