The Elite by Kiera Cass

2.0

This book seems to have all the usual (or are they cliché at this point?) elements for a successful YA dystopian novel: romance---in triangular form of course---a high-stakes competition, and a first-person narration to help the reader feel as if she is actually there. However, the writing seemed lazy, the characters felt flat, and the plot was too contrived. Perhaps it's because I opened this one after finishing a Kate Morton novel, whose descriptive writing, character development, and plot twists I admire. Of course I will read the last one to see who gets the girl but really, "The Bachelor" formula just doesn't do it for me!
