The Amityville Horror
by Jay Anson
I was about 8 years old when this story hit the front page of newspapers everywhere, and since then I've always lived in awe of the "horror" of Amityville. That is, until I decided to read this book. I should have left the story in childhood, because this book is just SO BAD. It's not only the writing itself that suffers, but also the story. It's beyond unbelievable that a family in the midst of constant emotional and spiritual turmoil would just continue day after day without a single real witness or without speaking out in case someone suspected demons. This was such a waste of my time, yet I read because the 8 year old in me pushed me to the end. This must have been why the Lutz's stayed for 28 days... the 8 year old in them had to see it through.
Don't read this !!!!! <-- unless you love exclamations and nonsense. I'm so disappointed in the story. I really wanted to hear an accounting of this house that sat in concert with the front page news of 1976, but alas, all I got from it was hours and hours of eye rolling. If I could go less than 1 star, I would.
