Morning Star by Pierce Brown

3.0

3.5. Good ending to a good series, loved Sevro and Victra. It kind of dragged in the middle with the Obsidians though. Saw the Cassius twist a MILE away, when the thing happened I was thinking, "No way Pierce Brown just did that, no way... something smells fishy here, this is all fake isn't it, this is all part of a plan." Then I flipped a few chapters forward and found out I was RIGHT, HAHAHAHAHA! Yes, I spoil things for myself, that's just how I work; I need to know if my hunches are accurate. There was also a surprising lack of bodies in this book, I thought more characters would die. People made it seem that way in their reviews but only one major character is coming to mind, and some minor ones. I definitely thought Kavax was on the chopping block after inviting Darrow to go fishing, that's just something that means your time is running out, but he lived. When Sevro "died", before I saw through the ruse, I though Brown was trying to pull a Finnick, murdering someone after their wedding for increased emotional effect (Leigh Bardugo also pulled this, RIP David), but nope he's fine. The ending felt a little rushed, but overall enjoyable. I would say this is about equal to Golden Son.
