MissSettl is a finalist for the Transgender Poetry award. I’m not the intended audience for this and I struggled with it’s experimental forms, and it’s deliberate ignoring and subversion of conventional spelling, grammar, punctuation and language. I know I missed much of what this collection has to offer but it’s energy and unapologetic political stance was never in any danger of being missed. One which grabbed my attention centred on ableism, a professor’s inappropriate use of the word schizophrenia, and the reactions when he is called out.
