Though this book comes from a currently popular genre and will appeal to readers of vampire literature and other fans of the series, Vampire Kisses; overall the story is lacking. It’s difficult to place the grade level of this book. On the one hand there are many lusty and sexual charged moments involving the main characters, a gothic teenager, Raven, and her hunky vampire boyfriend, Alexander. On the other hand the story line and plot devices are overly contrived as to almost insult the older reader’s intelligence. There are some points of high interest like the underground club for vampires, The Coffin Club and its eerie descriptions. All the while, Raven, an outsider in her own world, struggles to find where she fits in, in and out of this vampire world; but this theme isn’t explored as seriously and it should be. All in all, the story is light, with little depth but still full of action that would keep vampire romance/adventure interested young people reading.
