The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton

3.0

I really like the way Crichton writes, so it’s easy to get through the (overly!) scientific parts of his novels since the rest of it is quite good. But good lord how the hell can he write like that? So far I’ve read Jurassic Park, the Lost World, and now this, and in each one he talks about the science behind basically everything happening. It can be A LOT but it’s also pretty impressive. I am sure his other books are the same way and I will be reading more this year, Sphere is definitely on my list.

The story was good in the beginning but when the strain began to mutate he lost me. Why would it mutate like that? It was all resolved really quickly compared to 70% of the book being descriptions of the tests they were running. I’m really on the fence with this one. I’m between giving it 2 and 3 stars so I’ll go with 2.5. Please add half stars!!!
