Arctic Dreams by Barry Lopez

adventurous informative inspiring reflective slow-paced

4.5

Quite an extraordinary book, beautifully and very densely written. I found I could only consume it in small chunks, and took me longer to get through than a typical read, but was well worth the effort.
If you have a very specific interest in natural history, or exploration, or anthropology, or spirituality, this book might be frustrating; but if you have an interest in all of these and a general interest in the arctic as a place and as a human construct, this book will take you on a meandering but rewarding journey.
It saddens me greatly to think that our actions in the almost 40 years since this book was published have made it more of an elegy than I think it was ever intended to be.
