The Collected Schizophrenias by Esmé Weijun Wang

4.0

I blazed through this collection of essays exploring mental illness (schizophrenia in particular). It so effectively fused factual information about the history, classification and stigma attached to the schizophrenias, with her own personal experiences with the condition and its subsequent management. While Wang doesn't gloss over how frightening and debilitating her condition is, she also challenges the common narratives around mental health and makes a case for patient-driven treatment and greater recognition of neurodiversity.
