Catch Your Death by Lissa Marie Redmond

5.0

I really enjoyed this this book. This is my first Lissa Marie Redmond book that I read as a stand alone. Well it does have some mentions of The Parting Glass in it, I don’t feel like I was missing anything by reading it as a stand alone. The storyline really held my attention and I thought I had figured out who the killer was… boy was I wrong. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes murder mysteries and is into cold case files.

Detective Shane Reese was questioned seventeen years ago in the murder of his classmate Jessica Toakase, along with his other classmates who were part of a small pilot school program for gifted students. Her Murder was never solved and is currently listed as a cold case.

Fast forward seventeen years later he is now a cold case detective for the Buffalo Police Department with his partner Detective Lauren Riley. Jessica’s case has haunted Shane since it happened but he has never told Lauren about it.

Well out for lunch after following up on a lead for a cold case Shane runs into his old classmate Chris Sloan, who tells him about his new business adventure with a high luxury resort and spa he is set to open. Chris invites Shane and Lauren to come spend a trial weekend at his new business, along with the rest of Shane’s former classmates.

When Shane and Lauren get to the hotel it’s obvious that Jessica’s Murder has driven a wedge between the former classmates, as they were all suspects and questioned in the case. Tensions rise but no one is able to leave once a blizzard starts and traps them all in the hotel.

One of Shane’s former classmates declares that they have been looking and digging into Jessica’s case for their true crime podcast and is going to air who the killer is on their next episode. When they end up murdered that night it is clear that indeed one of them is in fact the murderer and has struck again.

Lissa’s writing style is incredible and has reports in her chapters as actual case files. You can play detective and try to solve the crime alongside Detective Riley following the clues. I thought that I had figured out who had killed Jessica and the other classmate. I did not see the twist at the end coming.

I also liked that each chapter is only a few pages long. It makes it nice for someone who isn’t a huge reader or someone who is just starting to get into reading. Makes it easy to set the goal of like 2-3 chapters a night attainable.

I will definitely be reading her other books.
