The Creative Act: A Way of Being
by Rick Rubin
This is not a traditional book, and I love it for that reason alone.
The book is a collection of short thought experiments, musings and just random things that feel extremely evocative in a way that stimulates my creative core. Some of the chapters contradict each other, others make no sense at all. I would pick this up for 5 minutes and sometimes leave completely bewildered. But, oddly enough, I would always leave creatively inspired.
This is a book I want next to me every time I have a block, every time I feel like I have no idea what I am doing.
It is a loving slap to the face when my brain needs to wake up and smell the art in front of me.
And I think I'll continue to take slaps from this book for years to come.
