Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson
5.0
It starts out feeling a little like a shouty Christian Slater monologue from 'True Romance' or an American 'Withnail and I' but the reason it might seem derivative is only that the subject matter and style have been used many many times since the 90s. It's a great read and gets better as it goes on; the paranoid fantasies of the protagonists become increasingly bizarre. It's both hilarious and sad that everyone else around them in the story are generally nice ordinary people who are simply very confused by their odd and childish behaviour.
