Goldie Vance, Vol. 2 by Hope Larson

4.0

Goldie and her best friend are running on the beach when they find an unconscious woman who appears to be an astronaut. After calling for help, Goldie sets out to find out who the young woman is and why she was lying helpless and alone on the sand.

Volume Two was still a strong entry in this series but it didn’t charm me quite as completely as the first collection did. I enjoyed reading more about Goldie’s mom but Goldie herself came across as a bit of an attention-seeker and a brat this time around. It wasn’t enough to completely turn me off but it was a definite vibe that admittedly set the stage for the ultimate conflict.

The art, by Brittney Williams, is still a fun retro pop that I just can’t get enough of.

This series feels like a throwback to some of the best action-y cartoons I grew up with in the ’80s. Goldie and her diverse crew are a delight and I can’t recommend this series highly enough!
