Demelza by Winston Graham

My biggest complaint from [b:Ross Poldark|25365667|Ross Poldark (Poldark, #1)|Winston Graham|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1429123693l/25365667._SX50_.jpg|364846] was the large cast of characters, which could be confusing at times. This book still had a large cast of characters but I was better able to follow along, somehow.

The beginning 1/3 of this book was slow going and it made me not want to pick it up. Not much seemed to be happening. I kept going plowing ahead, though, and somehow broke through the fog and it started to get interesting for me. Really interesting. There were so many different events, I wanted to keep reading. This book was set up more in a series of vignettes about different characters rather than a linear plot. So if you don't like that type of book, this series probably won't be for you.

I think I like this series because I find myself rooting for Ross because his life is a series of struggles with heartbreak thrown in but a lot of the time he manages to overcome many of the obstacles in his life through a series of hard work, perseverance, and luck.

I loved the focus on Demelza in this book, who I might appreciate as a character even more than Ross.
