This book did an incredible job of delving into human relationships, dynamics and emotions, while also providing an amazing look into Nigeria’s history that I personally didn’t know much about prior to reading this. I think the author has a beautiful way of describing the human experience, that you don’t often see from male authors.
My only complaint was the graphic nature with which a very violent scene was described at the very end. It felt very unnecessary, almost like trauma porn, and of course the scene involved a woman. It felt dehumanizing of what so many women go through and I wish that that had simple been eluded to and not described so vividly. This scene alone is the reason I can’t give the book 5 stars.
