A Christmas Carol has always been my favorite holiday movie. From the black & white version to the recent Jim Carrey lead, the classic by Charles Dickens has always resonated deeply within me. It’s a real mystery why I had never taken the time to read the novel. I picked it up this super cute edition from Wordsworth Edition & told myself I would read it on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day.
A Christmas Carol is Charles Dickens classic novel which tells the story of a bitter old miser named Ebenezer Scrooge. The novella was first published in 1843 and has been adapted into numerous theatrical and film productions. Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly old man who gets visitations of four Christmas spirits on Christmas Eve. In it, Dickens gives a vivid, dramatic portrayal of human nature and delves deep into the realm of emotion and imagination with a magical realism that sets it apart from every other work of literature.
I absolutely loved the novella A Christmas Carol. I could easily recognize the language style of the author because it is like two different stories. The prose of this novella was well arranged, and every sentence has a lot of deeper meanings that one can extract when he/she reads it. There is something so human and personal in Scrooge. He is not really a monster, but just a man made as such owing to his present circumstances and work environment. We admire him for the changes that he goes through during the course of one night because we all experience different changes ourselves at some point in our lives. The flow of the story is nice and smooth like a roll on grassland, as stated in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens: I had fallen into a vein of quiet thoughtfulness and was walking at my leisure…
