Ugly Girls by Lindsay Hunter

4.0

This was a really quick read for me. It was also raw. I hate using the word "gritty". Perry and Dayna (aka Baby Girl) are friends. Probably best friends even though they don't seem to think very highly of each other. Their friendship is more out of habit. They don't seem to have any other friends. They are both poor. Perry lives in a trailer park. They get in trouble almost everyday. Perry sleeps with everyone. Dayna is the one that is constantly trying to prove she's tough. She shaves her head, wears her older brothers clothes. But underneath all that is a vulnerable young girl. She wants to be like other teenage girls sometimes. She lives with her older brother (who is brain damaged after a bike accident) and, her uncle. It hurts when Jamey (a pervert that was in jail for trying to kill a young girl) starts messaging them both on Facebook and wants Perry. The pretty one. Lindsay Hunter paints a realistic portrait. She also sets a creepy tone pretty well. She's not scared of the ugliness of people's lives.
