Arctic Adagio by D.J. Cockburn

4.0

This is my kind of mystery - short and sweet. I didn't have time to get bored. In fact, I spent most of my time trying to parse the details of the setting. Obviously, climate change hasn't been stopped since they're sailing in an ice-free Arctic. Also, there's been some major economic issues that the super rich are hiding from on the Ayn Rand (which is the perfect name for a ship inhabited by the super rich).

Harme figures out what happened fairly quickly. It helps that he's been a beat cop and is quite cynical about people's motivations. He's not perfect, as you can tell by his poor relationship with his son, but he gets the job done. He's also willing to sacrifice himself if it means everyone else survives. Cockburn makes sure these are life or death stakes Harme is working with in solving the mystery. And the bad guy gets it in the end.
