I really wanted to like this book. The characters had the potential to be interesting. It had a zoro/femme fatale vibe but operating outside the male gaze. There was intrigue and drama and murder. And yet. I found myself completely uninvested in the characters. The plot distracted from the budding relationship and the relationship detracted from the plot. As a result both failed to resonate. When Anna and Kiki finally got together, I barely cared. I wish this book had been able to deliver. With a little more development or a decision to focus either mostly on the relationship ship or on the various mysteries, it could have been truly excellent.
