From Here to Eternity: Traveling the World to Find the Good Death by Caitlin Doughty

dark funny reflective fast-paced

4.0

My wife and I have watched every episode of Ask a Mortician and read Caitlin's other two books. When I was between books and noticed this on the bookcase downstairs, I decided it to was time to give it a read.

In this book, Caitlin Doughty travels to various sites around the world to witness their burial traditions, from places as close as Colorado and the Mojave desert to more exotic locales like Indonesia, Japan, and the Middle East. Catacombs, Towers of Silence, and corpses in the home for years are the order of the day, as are natural burials and outdoor cremations.

I don't want to spoil too many of the goodies. However, I occasionally put the book down to relate some tidbit to my wife, partly in order to spur her to read the book soon.

Four out of five stars. I hope Caitlin puts out another book and more episodes of Ask a Mortician soon.
