Brave Chef Brianna by Sam Sykes

2.0

Hm. Yikes.

The art in this way pretty and I liked the character designs (specially of the monsters). Brianna’s anxiety was also well depicted, even if it left me a bit anxious as well. But overall this story has this undercurrent of racism and gentrification that really sours the whole thing. Brianna, a rich white blonde, comes into this city full of marginalized people and immediately disregards all their laws for personal gain. The person who calls her out on that (who’s the character with the darker skin tone in the book, might I add) is painted as the villain, even if what she’s saying is right. So… no, I don’t recommend this.
